अर्जुनस्य शीघ्रप्रयाणं भीम-शकुनियुद्धं च
Arjuna’s Rapid Advance and the Bhīma–Śakuni Encounter
हत्वा दशसहस््राणि पार्थिवानां महारथ: । संशप्तकानां कौन्तेय: प्रत्यक्ष॑ं त्वरितो5भ्ययात्,महारथी कुन्तीकुमार अर्जुन सबके देखते-देखते दस हजार संशप्तक नरेशोंका वध करके तुरंत आगे बढ़ गये
hatvā daśasahasrāṇi pārthivānāṃ mahārathaḥ | saṃśaptakānāṃ kaunteyaḥ pratyakṣaṃ tvarito 'bhyayāt ||
Sañjaya said: Arjuna, son of Kuntī, the great chariot-warrior, slew ten thousand kings of the Saṃśaptakas; and, in full view of all, he swiftly pressed forward.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights the public, consequential nature of kṣatriya action in war: vows and duty drive decisive deeds, yet the scale of killing also points to the heavy moral gravity of warfare—victory is pursued, but at immense human cost.
Sañjaya reports that Arjuna, an elite chariot-warrior, kills ten thousand Saṃśaptaka kings/warriors and then immediately advances further, doing so openly before everyone on the battlefield.
