Chapter 45
eṣa saṁśaptakāhūtas tān evābhimukho gataḥ | karoti kadanaṁ caiṣāṁ saṅgrāme dviṣatāṁ balī ||
Sañjaya said: “Behold—summoned by the challenge of the Saṁśaptakas, the mighty Arjuna has turned straight toward them. In the thick of battle he is now cutting down those hostile foes.”
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights kṣatriya-dharma in practice: a warrior does not evade a direct challenge, especially from vowed fighters. Ethical emphasis falls on steadfastness, courage, and meeting one’s duty without turning away when the battle’s burden intensifies.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Arjuna, hearing the Saṁśaptakas’ challenge, has moved straight toward them and is actively destroying their forces in the ongoing battle.
