Karṇa-parva Adhyāya 19 — Saṃśaptaka–Trigarta Assault and Aindra-astra Counter
dhṛtarāṣṭra uvāca | proktas tvayā pūrvam eva pravīro lokaviśrutaḥ | na tv asya karma saṅgrāme tvayā sañjaya kīrtitam ||
Dhṛtarāṣṭra said: “You have already described him to me earlier as a mighty hero, renowned throughout the world. Yet, Sañjaya, you have not recounted to me his deeds—his actual conduct and exploits—in the battle.”
The verse highlights a distinction between reputation and demonstrated action: true assessment of a warrior (or any person) requires hearing and weighing concrete deeds, not merely fame.
Dhṛtarāṣṭra questions Sañjaya’s report: although Sañjaya has called the Pāṇḍya a world-famous hero, Dhṛtarāṣṭra wants a detailed account of what that hero actually did on the battlefield.
