Sanjaya said: “O bull among the Bharatas, having understood Karṇa’s intention, your sons ordered the army to make ready for battle, with joyous music of drums and other instruments leading the way.”

The verse highlights how a leader’s resolve (Karna’s matam) rapidly shapes collective behavior: once intention is known, institutions of war mobilize, often accompanied by celebratory spectacle. Ethically, it hints at the danger of letting enthusiasm and display normalize escalation, even when dharma is under strain.
Sanjaya reports to Dhritarashtra that, after learning Karna’s decision, the Kaurava princes issued orders for immediate military readiness. The army is set in motion with auspicious, jubilant war-music leading the preparations.
