आचार्यपुत्रो मेधावी वाक्यज्ञों वाक्यमाददे । युद्धमें प्राणोंकी आहुति देनेकी इच्छा रखनेवाले उन नरेशोंकी चेष्टाएँ देखकर राजा दुर्योधनके प्रातःकालीन सूर्यके समान तेजस्वी मुखकी ओर दृष्टिपात करके वाक्यविशारद, मेधावी आचार्यपुत्र अश्वत्थामाने यह बात कही--

Aśvatthāmā, the preceptor’s son—keen-witted and skilled in speech—seeing the stir of those kings who longed to offer up their lives in battle, cast his gaze upon King Duryodhana, whose face shone like the morning sun, and spoke these words—
