Dhṛtarāṣṭra said: “If my son had acted after taking the counsel of these men, he would have lived long—free from illness—together with his kinsmen, friends, and well-wishers.”
धृतराष्ट उवाच
A ruler’s welfare and the safety of his people depend on heeding wise counsel; rejecting sound advice leads to avoidable suffering and destruction, while accepting it preserves health, harmony, and longevity.
In the midst of the war’s grim developments, Dhṛtarāṣṭra reflects with remorse that if Duryodhana had followed the advice of well-wishers, he and his entire circle of relatives and friends could have avoided calamity and lived long in well-being.
