Jayadratha-rakṣā: Conch Signals and Encirclement of Arjuna
Chapter 79
ṛtukāle svakāṃ bhāryāṃ gacchatāṃ yā manīṣiṇām | parastrībhyo nivṛttānāṃ tāṃ gatiṃ vraja putraka ||
Sañjaya said: “My son, may you attain that very destiny which is won by wise men—those who, approaching only their own wife at the proper season, keep themselves completely withdrawn from the wives of others.”
The verse upholds gṛhastha-dharma: conjugal life should be regulated and lawful—union with one’s own wife at the proper time, and strict abstention from other men’s wives—leading to a meritorious spiritual destiny (gati).
Sañjaya addresses his son with a blessing framed as moral instruction, praising the conduct of wise men who practice sexual restraint and fidelity, and wishing the same auspicious end for him.
