sa eṣa rudrabhaktaḥ keśavo rudrasambhavaḥ | kṛṣṇa eva hi yaṣṭavyo yajñaiś caiva sanātanaḥ ||

Vyāsa said: “This Keśava is a devoted worshipper of Rudra and is also manifested through Rudra’s agency. Therefore, it is the eternal Kṛṣṇa alone who should be worshipped—especially through sacrificial rites—affirming that true reverence culminates in honoring the timeless Lord rather than being lost in sectarian division.”

Educational Q&A

The verse teaches that devotion need not be divisive: even while acknowledging Rudra’s greatness and Kṛṣṇa’s devotion to Rudra, the ultimate focus of worship is the eternal Lord Kṛṣṇa, especially through dharmic forms of worship such as yajña.

Vyāsa is making a doctrinal clarification within the larger war-epic context: he identifies Keśava (Kṛṣṇa) in relation to Rudra and then directs the listener toward proper worship, emphasizing Kṛṣṇa’s eternal status and the legitimacy of ritual devotion.
