स तथा पूज्यमानस्ते पूर्वदेहे5प्यतूतुषत् । पुष्कलांश्व वरान् प्रादात् तव विद्वन् हृदि स्थितान्,विद्वन्! इस प्रकार पूर्वजन्मके शरीरमें तुझसे पूजित होकर भगवान् शंकर बड़े प्रसन्न हुए थे और उन्होंने तुझे बहुत-से मनोवांछित वर प्रदान किये थे
sa tathā pūjyamānas te pūrvadehe 'py atūtuṣat | puṣkalān śubha-varān prādāt tava vidvan hṛdi sthitān ||
Thus, when you worshipped him in a former embodiment, he became deeply pleased. O wise one, Lord Śaṅkara then granted you abundant and auspicious boons—boons long cherished within your heart—showing how sincere devotion, even across lives, bears fitting fruit.
व्यास उवाच
Steadfast worship and reverence offered with sincerity can yield divine favor; the verse also underscores continuity across births, where past devotion ripens into present blessings.
Vyāsa explains that in an earlier life the addressed person worshipped Śaṅkara; pleased by that devotion, Śiva granted many desired and auspicious boons that matched the devotee’s heartfelt wishes.
