Arjuna-vīrya-prasaṃśā and renewed battle formation

daivam asya dhruvaṁ tatra sāhāyyāyopapadyate |

Sañjaya said: In such an undertaking, destiny—the divine factor—surely and steadfastly comes forward as an aid. For when a man resolves in his mind to bear a grievous burden, providence upholds that firm resolve—an idea invoked here to justify unwavering determination amid the brutal ethics of war.

Educational Q&A

The verse asserts a Mahābhārata theme: when human effort is backed by steady inner resolve, the factor called daiva (providence) aligns as support. It frames success as arising from the conjunction of determination (puruṣakāra) and destiny (daiva).

Sañjaya, narrating the battlefield events of Droṇa Parva, reports a statement that emphasizes unwavering determination in war: the speaker claims that once a heavy task is mentally undertaken, providence itself becomes an ally—used to bolster confidence and justify pressing forward in the conflict.
