Sañjaya uvāca: Ajmīḍha-nandana! tān sarvān nivārya śatru-ghātī śini-pautraḥ Sātyakiḥ tūrṇam eva dhanuḥ samutkṣipya agni-sadṛśa-tejasā bāṇaiḥ Duḥśāsanasya aśvān jaghāna. Tato ’rjunaḥ saṅkhye harṣam avāpa, Kṛṣṇaś ca taṃ puruṣa-pravīraṃ yuddha-bhūmau upasthitaṃ dṛṣṭvā; tadā Kṛṣṇaś cārjunaś ca Sātyakiṃ dṛṣṭvā paramam ānandaṃ prāptau.

Sañjaya said: “O descendant of Ajmīḍha! After checking them all, the enemy-slaying Sātyaki—grandson of Śini—swiftly lifted his bow and, with arrows blazing like fire, struck down the horses of Duḥśāsana. Then, in the thick of battle, Arjuna was filled with joy; and Kṛṣṇa too, seeing that foremost of men, Sātyaki, present on the battlefield, became greatly pleased.”

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights battlefield dharma in its practical form: decisive action that protects allies and shifts the momentum of a just cause. It also shows how the presence of a steadfast companion strengthens morale and resolve—ethical courage is reinforced through loyal support.

Sātyaki intervenes forcefully, restraining opposing forces and then shooting down Duḥśāsana’s horses with blazing arrows. Seeing Sātyaki’s timely arrival and prowess on the battlefield, both Kṛṣṇa and Arjuna feel great joy and renewed confidence.
