Sanjaya said: O King, then the mighty Bhimasena, filled with wrath, began to shower arrows upon the chariot-division standing before him. Though being struck down in the battle, your sons—great chariot-warriors, fierce in strength and intent on victory—continued to engage Bhima on the battlefield.

Educational Q&A

The verse underscores how anger (krodha) can intensify violence, while the craving for victory (jaya-eṣiṇā) can keep warriors fighting even when grievously wounded. It implicitly contrasts raw impulse and ambition with the need for discernment and restraint within kṣatriya-dharma.

Bhima, enraged, unleashes a heavy volley of arrows against the chariot troops before him. Despite being struck, Dhritarashtra’s sons—described as great chariot-warriors—continue to confront and fight Bhima, determined to win.
