Sañjaya said: Hearing the message delivered like a divine summons, Bhīṣma’s mind became uplifted. With a resolute heart he turned his attention to the slaying of Śveta—framing the coming act as a necessary decision within the harsh ethics of battle rather than as personal malice.

The passage highlights kṣatriya-dharma: in war, a commander must set aside personal emotion and act with firm resolve for the perceived necessity of the battle, while maintaining inner composure rather than hatred.
Sañjaya narrates that Bhīṣma, after hearing a message described as divinely delivered, becomes mentally energized and decides to focus on killing the warrior Śveta; the surrounding phrasing also alludes to Śveta being seen chariotless and fighting on foot.
