Garuḍa Array and the Ardhacandra Counter-Formation
श्वित॑ प्रति महाराज व्यसूजत् सायकान् बहून् तानावार्य रणे श्वेतों भीष्मस्य रथिनां वर:
Śvetaḥ prati mahārāja vyasūjat sāyakān bahūn; tān āvārya raṇe Śveto Bhīṣmasya rathināṁ varaḥ.
Sañjaya said: “O great king, Śveta shot forth many arrows in return. In the thick of battle, Śveta—foremost among Bhīṣma’s chariot-warriors—checked and turned back those missiles.”
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights kṣatriya-dharma in action: disciplined courage and skill under pressure. Ethical emphasis lies in steadfast performance of one’s role in a justly undertaken duty, without panic, even amid lethal exchange.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Śveta responds to an attack by releasing many arrows and, in the battle, successfully checks/wards off the incoming missiles, being described as a foremost chariot-warrior associated with Bhīṣma’s side.
