But, O Partha, that steadfastness by which a person, driven by attachment and craving for results, clings to duty (dharma), gain (artha), and pleasure (kāma)—that steadfastness is rajasic.

Resolve can look strong yet be ethically inferior when it is fueled by attachment and desire for outcomes. Rajasic steadfastness sustains action, but it is driven by craving for results and clinging, not by inner clarity or selfless duty.
In the dialogue on the battlefield, Arjuna asks about types of steadfastness (dhṛti) according to the three guṇas. This verse defines the rajasic type: persistence in dharma, artha, and kāma motivated by attachment and expectation of reward.
