अध्याय ९ — धृतराष्ट्रस्य युधिष्ठिरं प्रति राजनित्युपदेशः
Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Counsel on Royal Policy to Yudhiṣṭhira
उत्तरीयै: करैश्नापि संच्छाद्य वदनानि ते । रुरुदु: शोकसंतप्ता मुहूर्त पितृमातृवत्,वैशम्पायनजी कहते हैं--जनमेजय! कुरुराजकी ये करुणाभरी बातें सुनकर वहाँ एकत्र हुए कुरुजांगलदेशके सब लोग दुपट्टों और हाथोंसे अपना-अपना मुँह ढँककर रोने लगे। अपनी संतानको विदा करते समय दुःखसे कातर हुए पिता-माताकी भाँति वे दो घड़ीतक शोकसे संतप्त होकर रोते रहे
uttarīyaiḥ karaiś cāpi saṃchādya vadanāni te | ruruduḥ śokasaṃtaptā muhūrtaṃ pitṛmātṛvat ||
Vaiśampāyana said: Hearing those heart-rending words of the Kuru king, all the people gathered there in the Kuru-jāṅgala region covered their faces with their upper garments and with their hands, and began to weep. Burnt by grief, they cried for a while, like parents anguished at the moment of parting from their own child.
