अध्याय ९ — धृतराष्ट्रस्य युधिष्ठिरं प्रति राजनित्युपदेशः
Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Counsel on Royal Policy to Yudhiṣṭhira
वैशम्पायन उवाच तच्छुत्वा कुरुराजस्य वाक्यानि करुणानि ते । रुरुदु: सर्वशो राजन् समेता: कुरुजाजला:,वैशम्पायनजी कहते हैं--जनमेजय! कुरुराजकी ये करुणाभरी बातें सुनकर वहाँ एकत्र हुए कुरुजांगलदेशके सब लोग दुपट्टों और हाथोंसे अपना-अपना मुँह ढँककर रोने लगे। अपनी संतानको विदा करते समय दुःखसे कातर हुए पिता-माताकी भाँति वे दो घड़ीतक शोकसे संतप्त होकर रोते रहे
vaiśampāyana uvāca
tac chrutvā kururājasya vākyāni karuṇāni te |
ruruduḥ sarvaśo rājan sametāḥ kurujāṅgalāḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana said: O King (Janamejaya), hearing those compassion-laden words of the Kuru king, all the people of the Kuru-Jāṅgala region who had gathered there began to weep openly.
