गोप्रदानगुणाः तथा कपिलागोविधानम्
Merits of Cow-Gift and the Origin-Account of Kapilā Cows
न जातु ब्राह्मणो वाच्यो यदवाच्यं शचीपते । मनसा गोधु न द्रुह्ेद् गोवृत्तिगोंडनुकल्पक:,शचीपते शक्र! ब्राह्मणके प्रति कभी कुवाच्य नहीं बोलना चाहिये और गौओंके प्रति कभी मनसे भी द्रोहका भाव नहीं रखना चाहिये। जो ब्राह्मण गौओंके समान वृत्तिसे रहता है और गौओंके लिये घास आदिकी व्यवस्था करता है, साथ ही सत्य और धर्ममें तत्पर रहता है, उसे प्राप्त होनेवाले फलका वर्णन सुनो। वह यदि एक गौका भी दान करे तो उसे एक हजार गोदानके समान फल मिलता है
na jātu brāhmaṇo vācyo yad avācyaṃ śacīpate | manasā goṣu na druhyed govṛttigo'nukalpakaḥ ||
Bhīṣma said: “O lord of Śacī (Indra), one should never address a brāhmaṇa with words that ought not to be spoken. Likewise, one should never, even in the mind, harbor malice toward cows. A brāhmaṇa who lives with a cow-like livelihood—simple and harmless—who makes provision for cows (such as arranging grass and fodder), and who is devoted to truth and dharma: hear the fruit that comes to him. Even if he gives in charity only a single cow, he attains merit equal to the gift of a thousand cows.”
