गोप्रदानगुणाः तथा कपिलागोविधानम्
Merits of Cow-Gift and the Origin-Account of Kapilā Cows
सत्ये धर्मे च निरतस्तस्य शक्र फलं शृणु । गोसहस्रेण समिता तस्य थेनुर्भवत्युत,शचीपते शक्र! ब्राह्मणके प्रति कभी कुवाच्य नहीं बोलना चाहिये और गौओंके प्रति कभी मनसे भी द्रोहका भाव नहीं रखना चाहिये। जो ब्राह्मण गौओंके समान वृत्तिसे रहता है और गौओंके लिये घास आदिकी व्यवस्था करता है, साथ ही सत्य और धर्ममें तत्पर रहता है, उसे प्राप्त होनेवाले फलका वर्णन सुनो। वह यदि एक गौका भी दान करे तो उसे एक हजार गोदानके समान फल मिलता है
pitāmaha uvāca | satye dharme ca niratas tasya śakra phalaṃ śṛṇu | go-sahasreṇa samitā tasya dhenur bhavaty uta | śacīpate śakra |
Pitāmaha said: “O Śakra, listen to the fruit that comes to one who is devoted to truth and dharma. Even a single cow given by such a person becomes, in merit, equal to a thousand cows. O Śakra, lord of Śacī—one should never speak harshly to a brāhmaṇa, and one should not even conceive hostility toward cows. Whoever lives with a cow-like livelihood—gentle, harmless, sustaining others—and provides fodder and care for cows, while remaining steadfast in truth and righteousness, gains this exalted result.”
