Bhīṣma uvāca: śīlavṛttis tu yat kṛtyaṃ prātas tat kṛtavān śuciḥ | kṛtakṛtyam upātiṣṭhat siddham atithiṃ tadā ||
Bhishma said: At daybreak, that householder of disciplined conduct, having purified himself, performed the morning duties that were to be done. When his daily observances were complete, he then stood ready to attend upon the accomplished guest—who, in the meantime, had also finished his own necessary morning rites such as bathing and worship.
भीष्म उवाच
Dharma is upheld through disciplined daily observance (morning rites, cleanliness) and respectful hospitality; one should complete one’s obligatory duties and then serve a guest properly, especially a worthy or accomplished visitor.
A disciplined householder rises at dawn, purifies himself, completes his morning rituals, and then approaches to serve an accomplished guest, who has likewise finished his own morning bathing and worship.
