अहिंसयित्वा ब्रह्महत्याविधानम् / Brahmahatyā incurred without physical violence

मार्कण्डेय उवाच अश्वमेधसहस्रं च सत्यं च तुलया धृतम्‌ । नाभिजानामि यद्यस्य सत्यस्यार्धमवाप्तरुयात्‌,मार्कण्डेयजी कहते हैं--यदि तराजूके एक पलड़ेमें एक हजार अश्वमेध-यज्ञको और दूसरेमें सत्यको रखकर तौला जाय तो भी न जाने वे सारे अश्वमेध-यज्ञ इस सत्यके आधेके बराबर भी होंगे या नहीं?

Transliteration

Mārkaṇḍeya uvāca— aśvamedha-sahasraṃ ca satyaṃ ca tulayā dhṛtam | nābhijānāmi yad yasya satyasyārdham avāptum arhati ||

Translation

Mārkaṇḍeya said: “If a thousand Aśvamedha sacrifices were placed on one pan of a balance and Truth on the other, I cannot say that those sacrifices would even deserve to equal half of Truth. Such is the immeasurable worth of truthfulness.”
