Agni said: “A man who has studied and, thinking himself a great scholar, becomes proud of his learning, and who by the power of that learning destroys the good name of others—he falls away from dharma and does not walk in truth. Therefore, the worlds he attains are perishable and end in loss.”

Learning becomes spiritually harmful when it turns into arrogance and is used to undermine others. Such misuse causes a fall from dharma and satya, leading to inferior, impermanent results.
Agni delivers a moral instruction: he criticizes the conceited scholar who weaponizes knowledge to ruin others’ fame, and he states the karmic consequence—decline from righteousness and attainment of perishable realms.
