अध्याय १६ — शङ्कर-उमा-वरदानम् तथा तण्डि-स्तुतिः (Śaṅkara–Umā Boon-Granting and Taṇḍi’s Hymn)
त॑ त्वां देवासुरनरास्तत्त्वेन न विदुर्भवम् मोहिता: खल्वनेनैव हृदिस्थेनाप्रकाशिना,हृदयमन्दिरमें गूढ़भावसे रहकर प्रकाशित न होनेवाले इन परमात्मदेवने सबको अपनी मायासे मोहित कर रखा है। इसीलिये देवता, असुर और मनुष्य आप महादेवको यथार्थ रूपसे नहीं जान पाते हैं
taṁ tvāṁ devāsura-narās tattvena na vidur bhavam, mohitāḥ khalv anenaiva hṛdi-sthenāprakāśinā
Vāyu said: “The gods, the asuras, and human beings do not truly know you as you are, O Bhava (Śiva). For they are indeed deluded by this very power—hidden within the heart and not manifest—by which the Supreme Lord keeps beings under the spell of māyā. Therefore they fail to recognize Mahādeva in his real nature.”
