उपवासविधि-प्रश्नः

Inquiry into the Discipline of Fasting

न गुरावकृतप्रज्ञे शक्‍्यं शिष्येण वर्तितुम्‌ । गुरोहिं दीर्घदर्शित्वं यत्‌ तच्छिष्यस्य भारत,यदि गुरु अथवा बड़े भाईका विचार शुद्ध न हो तो शिष्य या छोटे भाई उसकी आज्ञाके अधीन नहीं रह सकते। भारत! बड़ेके दीर्घदर्शी होनेपर छोटे भाई भी दीर्घदर्शी होते हैं

bhīṣma uvāca | na gurāv akṛtaprajñe śakyaṃ śiṣyeṇa vartitum | guroḥ hi dīrghadarśitvaṃ yat tac chiṣyasya bhārata |

Bhishma said: A disciple cannot properly remain under the discipline of a teacher whose judgment is not mature. For, O Bharata, whatever farsightedness belongs to the teacher, that very quality is reflected in the disciple as well—when the elder is truly long-sighted, the younger too becomes long-sighted.
