भीष्म उवाच ज्येष्ठवत्‌ तात वर्तस्व ज्येष्ठोडसि सततं भवान्‌ । गुरोर्गरीयसी वृत्तिया च शिष्यस्यथ भारत,भीष्मजीने कहा--तात भरतनन्दन! तुम अपने भाइयोंमें सबसे बड़े हो; अतः सदा बड़ेके अनुरूप ही बर्ताव करो। गुरुको अपने शिष्यके प्रति जैसा गौरवयुक्त बर्ताव होता है, वैसा ही तुम्हें भी अपने भाइयोंके साथ करना चाहिये

Transliteration

bhīṣma uvāca | jyeṣṭhavat tāta vartasva jyeṣṭho 'si satataṁ bhavān | guror garīyasī vṛttir yā ca śiṣyasya tathā bhārata ||

Translation

Bhishma said: “Dear child, conduct yourself in the manner befitting the eldest, for you are always the elder among your brothers. As a teacher maintains a dignified, weighty, and protective bearing toward a disciple, so too should you behave toward your brothers, O Bharata.”
