न संनिकृष्टे मेधावी नाशुचेर्न च सत्सु च | प्रतिषिद्धान्‌ नधर्मेषु भक्ष्यान्‌ भुज्जीत पृष्ठत:,बुद्धिमान्‌ पुरुषको चाहिये कि वह किसी अपवित्र मनुष्यके निकट अथवा सत्पुरुषोंके सामने बैठकर भोजन न करे। धर्मशास्त्रोंमें जिनका निषेध किया गया हो, ऐसे भोजनको पीठ पीछे छिपाकर भी न खाय

Transliteration

na saṁnikṛṣṭe medhāvī nāśucer na ca satsu ca | pratiṣiddhān adharmyeṣu bhakṣyān bhuñjīta pṛṣṭhataḥ ||

Translation

Bhishma said: A wise man should not take his meal while sitting too close to an impure person, nor in the presence of the virtuous. Nor should he eat—whether in secret, turning his back—foods that are forbidden by the dharma-texts and belong to unrighteous conduct.
