Vaiśampāyana said: Anādṛṣṭi’s son was a king who performed the Rājasūya and the Aśvamedha sacrifices. He was renowned by the name Matināra, a ruler celebrated as supremely righteous—one whose authority was expressed through Vedic rites and whose kingship was grounded in dharma.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse links ideal kingship with dharma: a ruler’s fame and legitimacy arise from righteous conduct and the responsible performance of great public rites (Rājasūya and Aśvamedha), which symbolize governance aligned with Vedic order.
Vaiśampāyana continues a genealogical account, identifying Matināra as the son of Anādṛṣṭi and characterizing him as a renowned, highly righteous king who performed major royal sacrifices.
