Vaiśampāyana said: “O Janamejaya, intent on serving them constantly, the young Kaca pleased Devayānī by singing, dancing, and playing musical instruments. Having undertaken a disciplined observance for a fixed period, he was duly accepted by Śukrācārya; and Kaca continued daily to honor both the teacher Śukra and his daughter Devayānī.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the ethic of guru-sevā: a student gains acceptance and progress through disciplined observance (vrata, dīkṣā) and steady, respectful service to the teacher and the teacher’s household, keeping conduct pleasing and appropriate.
Kaca, having undertaken a time-bound observance, is accepted by Śukrācārya and continues to honor both Śukra and Devayānī daily; he pleases Devayānī through youthful arts such as singing, dancing, and instrumental music.
