Agni’s Curse and the Restoration of Ritual Order
Śaunaka uvāca: Devarṣayaś ca muditās tato jagmur yathāgatam | Ṛṣayaś ca yathāpūrvaṃ kriyāḥ sarvāḥ pracakrire ||
Śaunaka said: Then the divine seers, delighted, departed just as they had come. Thereafter the sages and great sages resumed, as before, the full round of prescribed observances—such as the agnihotra—thereby restoring the steady rhythm of dharma through disciplined ritual life.
The verse underscores dharma as continuity of disciplined practice: after an extraordinary visit by divine seers, the sages return to their regular prescribed rites (kriyāḥ) like agnihotra, showing that spiritual life is sustained by steady observance rather than momentary excitement.
Śaunaka reports that the devarṣis, pleased, depart in the same manner as they arrived; once they leave, the resident sages and great sages resume their customary ritual duties, restoring the normal routine of the hermitage.
