Duḥṣantasya Vana-praveśaḥ
King Duḥṣanta’s Entry into the Forest Hunt
शुक्रप्रस्थापने काल॑ महिष्या: प्रसमीक्ष्य वै अभिमन्त्रयाथ तच्छुक्रमारात् तिष्ठन्तमाशुगम्,तदनन्तर रानीके पास अपना वीर्य भेजनेका उपयुक्त अवसर देख उन्होंने उस वीर्यको पुत्रोत्पत्तिकारक मन्त्रोंद्वारा अभिमन्त्रित किया। राजा वसु धर्म और अर्थके सूक्ष्मतत्त्वको जाननेवाले थे। उन्होंने अपने विमानके समीप ही बैठे हुए शीघ्रगामी श्येन पक्षी (बाज)-के पास जाकर कहा--'सौम्य! तुम मेरा प्रिय करनेके लिये यह वीर्य मेरे घर ले जाओ और महारानी गिरिकाको शीघ्र दे दो; क्योंकि आज ही उनका ऋतुकाल है।” बाज वह वीर्य लेकर बड़े वेगके साथ तुरंत वहाँसे उड़ गया
Śukraprasthāpane kālaṁ mahiṣyāḥ prasamīkṣya vai, abhimantrayātha tac chukram ārāt tiṣṭhantam āśugam śyenam; tad-anantaraṁ rājā Vasu dharma-artha-sūkṣma-tattva-jñaḥ svavimāna-samīpe niṣaṇṇam āśugāmiṇaṁ śyenam upagamya uvāca—“Saumya, mama priyaṁ kartum idaṁ vīryaṁ gṛhaṁ naya; mahārāṇī Girikāṁ ca śīghraṁ dehi, adyaiva hy asyā ṛtu-kālaḥ.” Sa śyenaḥ tad vīryaṁ gṛhītvā mahā-vegena tatraiva tato ’patat.
Vaiśampāyana said: Observing that the queen had reached the proper time for conception, the king had his semen consecrated with mantras intended to bring about offspring. King Vasu, who understood the subtle principles of dharma and artha, then approached a swift hawk near his aerial car and said, “Gentle one, carry this seed to my home and quickly deliver it to Queen Girikā, for today is her fertile season.” Taking the seed, the hawk immediately flew off at great speed.
