Rejoicing and intent on abducting the auspicious lady, he said to himself, “My purpose is accomplished.” For that pure-smiling woman had formerly been chosen (as a bride) by the rākṣasa Puloman.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the ethical tension between rightful marital choice and violent seizure: desire and opportunism (jihīrṣuḥ) are shown as driving adharma, while prior 'choice/selection' (vṛtā) becomes a competing claim that fuels conflict.

A character, delighted, thinks his objective is achieved and prepares to abduct the auspicious woman Pulomā; the narration notes that Pulomā had earlier been chosen by the rākṣasa Puloman, setting up a dispute over her and the ensuing events.
