Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the vulnerability of even a dharmic setting and implies an ethical duty of vigilance and protection: righteousness is not merely personal purity (ritual bath) but also the safeguarding of dependents and the household when threats arise.

Śaunaka narrates that Bhṛgu steps out for his ritual bath, and during his absence a rākṣasa named Pulomā approaches Bhṛgu’s hermitage, initiating the ensuing crisis in the Pulomā episode.
