Even in a sacred place like an āśrama, uncontrolled kāma (desire) can overpower the mind and destroy discernment; the verse underscores the ethical necessity of self-restraint and vigilance over the senses.
A man enters the hermitage and, upon seeing the blameless wife of the sage Bhṛgu, becomes seized by heart-born desire and loses his composure and clarity of mind.
