Bhrigu Lineage Preface and the Pulomā–Agni Dialogue
ruror api suto jajñe śunako vedapāragaḥ | pramadvarāyāṃ dharmātmā tava pūrvapitāmahaḥ ||
From Ruru too a son was born—Śunaka, a master of the Vedas. Born of Pramadvarā, he was righteous in conduct; and he stands in your line as a forefather of earlier generations.

The verse highlights an ideal of lineage grounded not merely in birth but in dharma and Vedic mastery: an ancestor is remembered as exemplary because he is both learned (vedapāraga) and righteous (dharmātmā).
Śaunaka identifies a figure in the ancestral line: Ruru’s son Śunaka, born of Pramadvarā, described as a Veda-knower and a dharma-minded person, establishing genealogical continuity and moral stature.
