Śaunaka said: “Cyavana had an heir named Pramati, a man devoted to dharma. And Pramati, through the Apsaras Ghṛtācī, had a son who came to be known as Ruru.”
शौनक उवाच
The verse foregrounds dharma as a defining quality of a lineage: Pramati is explicitly called dhārmika (righteous), suggesting that ethical character is a primary marker of worth, even when the next generation arises through extraordinary, non-ordinary circumstances (an apsarā).
Śaunaka continues a genealogical account: Cyavana’s successor is Pramati, and Pramati fathers a son, Ruru, through the Apsaras Ghṛtācī—establishing the next link in the family line.
