Elāpatra said: Then, resolved to give his own sister in marriage to the sage Jaratkāru, the king of the nāgas, Vāsuki, appointed many serpents—ever obedient and always at his command—to search for Jaratkāru. The episode reveals a community’s urgent, duty-bound effort to avert a foretold calamity by fulfilling a righteous obligation in time.
एलापत्र उवाच
When a community faces a looming consequence, dharma requires prompt, organized action—using rightful means (here, a lawful marriage alliance) and disciplined service—to pursue a remedy rather than resignation.
Elāpatra (speaking within the Nāga context) describes the decision to give a sister in marriage to the sage Jaratkāru and the practical step taken next: many obedient serpents are deputed to locate Jaratkāru.
