Sautir uvāca—etac chrutvā tu nāgendraḥ pitāmahavacas tadā | sandiśya pannagān sarvān vāsukiḥ śāpamohitaḥ ||
Sauti said: Hearing the words of the Grandsire (Brahmā), the lord of the nāgas, Vāsuki—bewildered by the force of the curse—sent instructions to all the serpents. He conveyed that his sister was to be given in marriage to the sage Jaratkāru, and he then appointed many ever-obedient nāgas to search for that sage.
एलापत्र उवाच
When confronted with an inherited calamity (a curse), dharma requires purposeful action rather than despair: heed wise authority, mobilize one’s community, and take responsibility to protect the future of the lineage.
After hearing Brahmā’s counsel, Vāsuki—troubled by the curse upon the nāgas—issues orders to all serpents and assigns many to locate the sage Jaratkāru, so that a marriage alliance involving Vāsuki’s sister can be arranged as part of the remedy.
