Śārṅgakānāṃ Avināśaḥ (Why the Śārṅga Birds Were Spared) | शार्ङ्गकानामविनाशः
तत्र तत्र महानादैरुत्कृष्टतलनादितै: । यथायोगं यथाप्रीति विजहु: कुरुवृष्णय:,वे कौरव और वृष्णिवंशके वीर जहाँ-तहाँ वीणाकी उत्तम ध्वनिके साथ गाते-बजाते और संगीतका आनन्द लेते हुए यथावसर अपनी-अपनी रुचिके अनुसार विहार करने लगे
tatra tatra mahānādair utkṛṣṭa-tala-nāditaiḥ | yathāyogaṃ yathāprīti vijahuḥ kuru-vṛṣṇayaḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana said: Here and there, amid loud acclamations and the resonant beat of excellent rhythm, the heroes of the Kurus and the Vṛṣṇis took their leisure—singing and playing music—each in due course and according to his own delight.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Even enjoyment is ideally governed by fitness to time and place (yathāyogam). The verse subtly upholds cultured restraint: pleasure (prīti) is not rejected, but harmonized with propriety and occasion.
The Kurus and Vṛṣṇis are depicted dispersing to various spots and enjoying music—singing, playing, and keeping rhythm—amid loud sounds and festive resonance, each according to his taste and at suitable moments.
