Śārṅgakānāṃ Avināśaḥ (Why the Śārṅga Birds Were Spared) | शार्ङ्गकानामविनाशः
te sametā mahātmānaḥ kuruvṛṣṇyandhakottamāḥ | vijahur amarāvāse narāḥ sukṛtino yathā ||
Vaiśampāyana said: Those great-souled leaders—foremost among the Kurus, Vṛṣṇis, and Andhakas—gathered together and began to sport and move about at will in that celestial abode, as virtuous men enjoy happiness in the world of the gods by the power of their merit.
The verse underscores the ethical idea that sukṛta (meritorious action) bears फल (result): the virtuous attain a heavenly state and enjoy happiness there, paralleling how these noble clansmen delight in the celestial abode.
Vaiśampāyana narrates that the foremost men of the Kuru, Vṛṣṇi, and Andhaka lineages have assembled in a heavenly realm and are freely enjoying themselves there, like righteous people who reach heaven through their good deeds.
