Cause of Kalmāṣapāda’s Niyoga under a Curse
त॑ च पार्थिवशार्टूलमानयामास तत् पुरम् । तपत्या सहित राजन व्युषितं शाश्वती: समा: । ततः प्रवृष्टस्तत्रासीदू् यथापूर्व सुरारिहा,साथ ही वे नृपश्रेष्ठ संवरणको, जो बहुत वर्षोंसे प्रवासी हो रहे थे, तपतीके साथ नगरमें ले आये। उनके आनेपर दैत्यहन्ता देवराज इन्द्र वहाँ पूर्ववत् वर्षा करने लगे
taṁ ca pārthivaśārdūlam ānayāmāsa tat puram | tapatyā sahita rājan vyuṣitaṁ śāśvatīḥ samāḥ | tataḥ pravṛṣṭas tatrāsīd yathāpūrvaṁ surārihā ||
Then he brought that tiger among kings, King Saṁvaraṇa, back to the city, together with Tapatī, O king, after he had lived away for many long years. Upon his return, Indra—the slayer of the foes of the gods—again caused the rains to fall there as before.
वसिष्ठ उवाच
The verse links righteous kingship and a properly established household with the welfare of the kingdom: when the rightful ruler returns and order is restored, prosperity symbolized by timely rains returns as well.
Vasiṣṭha brings King Saṁvaraṇa—who had been living away for many years—back to his city along with Tapatī. After their return, Indra resumes sending rains there, as in earlier times.
