Cause of Kalmāṣapāda’s Niyoga under a Curse

प्रतिजग्राह तां कन्यां महर्षिस्तपतीं तदा । वसिष्ठो5थ विसृष्टस्तु पुनरेवाजगाम ह,ब्रह्मर्षि वसिष्ठने उस कन्याको ग्रहण किया और वहाँसे विदा होकर वे तपतीके साथ पुनः उस स्थानपर आये, जहाँ विख्यातकीर्ति, कुरुवंशियोंमें श्रेष्ठ राजा संवरण कामके वशीभूत हो मन-ही-मन तपतीका चिन्तन करते हुए बैठे थे

pratijagrāha tāṃ kanyāṃ maharṣis tapatīṃ tadā | vasiṣṭho 'tha visṛṣṭas tu punar evājagāma ha ||

Then the great seer Vasiṣṭha accepted that maiden Tapatī. Having been duly dismissed, he returned again with her to the very place where King Saṃvaraṇa—renowned in fame and foremost among the Kurus—sat, overcome by desire, silently dwelling in his mind upon Tapatī.
