Vaiśampāyana said: “Then Bhīṣma, the son of Śantanu, and also Somadatta and Bāhlīka arrived. The royal sage Dhṛtarāṣṭra—‘he whose eyes are wisdom’—came as well, along with the chamberlain Sañjaya and Vidura himself.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical weight of decision-making in a royal context: when elders and renowned counselors assemble, it implies that actions should be guided by dharma, prudence, and collective wisdom rather than haste or personal bias.
A group of prominent Kuru figures—Bhīṣma, Somadatta, Bāhlīka, Dhṛtarāṣṭra, Sañjaya, and Vidura—arrive together, indicating a formal gathering/assembly where significant matters of the kingdom and family are to be discussed.
