Sudāmā Brāhmaṇa: Divine Friendship, Guru-bhakti, and the Lord’s Grace

कुचैलं मलिनं क्षामं द्विजं धमनिसन्ततम् । देवी पर्यचरत् साक्षाच्चामरव्यजनेन वै ॥ २३ ॥

ku-cailaṁ malinaṁ kṣāmaṁ dvijaṁ dhamani-santatam devī paryacarat sākṣāc cāmara-vyajanena vai

The goddess Śrī (Lakṣmī) personally served that poor brāhmaṇa, fanning him with a cāmara; his clothes were torn and dirty, and he was so emaciated that his veins stood out all over his body.
