Rukmiṇī’s Message Begins
कच्चिद् व: कुशलं ब्रह्मन् राजतो यस्य हि प्रजा: । सुखं वसन्ति विषये पाल्यमाना: स मे प्रिय: ॥ ३४ ॥
kaccid vaḥ kuśalaṁ brahman rājato yasya hi prajāḥ sukhaṁ vasanti viṣaye pālyamānāḥ sa me priyaḥ
O brāhmaṇa, are you well? Is your king seeing to your welfare? Indeed, that king in whose realm the people live happily and are protected is very dear to Me.
This verse praises the ruler under whose governance the people live happily because they are properly protected, indicating that true kingship is measured by the welfare and security of the prajā.
In the narrative of Canto 10, Chapter 52, Kṛṣṇa respectfully receives the messenger and inquires about well-being and righteous rule, reflecting His concern for dharma and the proper protection of society.
Leaders and administrators should be evaluated by how well they ensure people’s safety, stability, and well-being; individuals can also practice this principle by responsibly protecting and caring for those under their charge.
