Vīrabhadra Destroys Dakṣa’s Sacrifice
Dakṣa-yajña-vināśa
आक्रम्योरसि दक्षस्य शितधारेण हेतिना । छिन्दन्नपि तदुद्धर्तुं नाशक्नोत् त्र्यम्बकस्तदा ॥ २२ ॥
ākramyorasi dakṣasya śita-dhāreṇa hetinā chindann api tad uddhartuṁ nāśaknot tryambakas tadā
Then Virabhadra, the giant personality, sat on the chest of Daksha and tried to separate his head from his body with sharp weapons, but was unsuccessful.
This verse shows the severe reaction during Dakṣa’s yajña—Śiva attacks Dakṣa—highlighting that arrogance and offenses toward great devotees and devas bring immediate downfall and suffering.
In the Dakṣa-yajña episode, Dakṣa insulted Śiva and dishonored Satī; the conflict culminated in the destruction of the sacrifice, where Śiva’s side confronts Dakṣa, leading to this violent turning point.
Avoid pride and disrespect—especially toward sincere devotees and spiritual authorities—because offenses poison devotion; cultivate humility, restraint in speech, and reverence to protect one’s bhakti.
