Genealogies of Svāyambhuva Manu, the Appearance of Yajña, and Atri’s Sons
Brahmā–Viṣṇu–Śiva Expansions
पत्नी मरीचेस्तु कला सुषुवे कर्दमात्मजा । कश्यपं पूर्णिमानं च ययोरापूरितं जगत् ॥ १३ ॥
patnī marīces tu kalā suṣuve kardamātmajā kaśyapaṁ pūrṇimānaṁ ca yayor āpūritaṁ jagat
Kalā, the daughter of Kardama Muni and wife of Marīci, gave birth to two children—Kaśyapa and Pūrṇimā—whose descendants filled the world in every direction.
This verse identifies Kaśyapa as the son of Marīci and Kalā; he is a key progenitor (prajā-pati) through whom many lineages expand, thus “filling” the world with living beings.
It states that Marīci’s wife Kalā (daughter of Kardama Muni) bore Kaśyapa and Pūrṇimā, and through them the world became populated.
They highlight the Bhagavatam’s view of life as sacred, ordered, and purpose-driven—encouraging responsibility, dharma, and gratitude toward the divine arrangement behind family and society.
