Lakṣmī’s Emergence, Dhanvantari, and the Advent of Mohinī-mūrti
तत उच्चै:श्रवा नाम हयोऽभूच्चन्द्रपाण्डुर: । तस्मिन्बलि: स्पृहां चक्रे नेन्द्र ईश्वरशिक्षया ॥ ३ ॥
tata uccaiḥśravā nāma hayo ’bhūc candra-pāṇḍuraḥ tasmin baliḥ spṛhāṁ cakre nendra īśvara-śikṣayā
Thereafter a horse named Uccaiḥśravā, white as the moon, was produced. Bali Mahārāja longed to possess it, and Indra did not object, having been previously instructed so by the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
This verse states that the moon-white horse Uccaiḥśravā appeared from the churning of the Milk Ocean, and Bali Mahārāja desired him, while Indra refrained due to the Supreme Lord’s instruction.
Indra did not covet the horse because he was acting under the guidance (īśvara-śikṣā) of the Supreme Lord, showing restraint rather than rivalry over the newly manifested treasures.
When attractive opportunities arise, practice self-control and follow higher guidance (dharma and devotion) instead of being driven by envy or possessiveness.
