The Lord Appears to the Devas and Instructs the Truce; Mandara Is Brought for Churning
न भेतव्यं कालकूटाद् विषाज्जलधिसम्भवात् । लोभ: कार्यो न वो जातु रोष: कामस्तु वस्तुषु ॥ २५ ॥
na bhetavyaṁ kālakūṭād viṣāj jaladhi-sambhavāt lobhaḥ kāryo na vo jātu roṣaḥ kāmas tu vastuṣu
From the Ocean of Milk a poison called kālakūṭa will arise; do not fear it. And as various treasures emerge, do not become greedy, anxious to possess them, or angry.
It appears that by the churning process many things would be generated from the Ocean of Milk, including poison, valuable gems, nectar and many beautiful women. The demigods were advised, however, not to be greedy for the gems or beautiful women, but to wait patiently for the nectar. The real purpose was to get the nectar.
This verse advises not to be afraid even of the deadly Kālakūṭa poison that emerged from the ocean, and instead to remain steady and disciplined.
While narrating the churning of the ocean, he highlights that great upheavals can provoke craving and rage; devotees and seekers should avoid lobha (greed) and roṣa/krodha (anger) and keep their desire aimed at the truly worthy spiritual goal.
When crises or “toxic” situations arise, avoid panic; do not let them trigger greed or anger. Stay focused on what is genuinely valuable—character, service, and spiritual progress.
