Sukta 38

Mantra 1

केवलः पतिः। इदं खनामि भेषजं मांपश्यमभिरोरुदम्। परायतो निवर्तनमायतः प्रतिनन्दनम्

An only husband: this medicine I dig up—(that he) may look on me, crying out for me; the return of him who hath gone away, the glad welcoming of him who cometh.

Mantra 2

येना निचक्र आसुरीन्द्रं देवेभ्यस्परि । तेना नि कुर्वे त्वामहं यथा तेऽसानि सुप्रिया

By that whereby the Asurī brought Indra low, and severed him away from the Gods—by that same means do I subject thee, that I may be unto thee exceeding dear.

Mantra 3

प्रतीची सोममसि प्रतीच्युत सूर्यम्। प्रतीची विश्वान् देवान् तां त्वाच्छावदामसि

Hitherward turned art thou to Soma, hitherward also to the Sun; hitherward to all the Gods—unto thee, so turned, do we address our call.

Mantra 4

अहं वदामि नेत् त्वं सभायामह त्वं वद । ममेदसस्त्वं केवलो नान्यासां कीर्तयाश्चन

I speak—do thou not speak in the assembly; I (speak), thou (only) speak as bidden. Thou art mine alone; of other women thou shalt not so much as make mention.

Mantra 5

यदि वासि तिरोजनं यदि वा नद्यऽस्तिरः । इयं ह मह्यं त्वामोषधिर्बद्ध्वेव न्यानयत्

If thou abidest beyond the folk, or if thou stayest on this side the river—this herb, indeed, for me hath brought thee hither, as though having bound thee fast.
