Mantra 1
The cowshed: with the cowshed we settle you well—together with wealth, together with well-being. By the name, whatever it be, of the day-born, thereby do we unite you.
Mantra 2
Let Aryaman join you together; together let Pūṣan, together Bṛhaspati. Together let Indra—he who conquers wealth—make thrive in me whatever good is yours.
Mantra 3
Assembled, fearless, in this cowshed—ye dung-bearing ones—bearing Soma-like sweetness, disease-free: come ye hither, draw near.
Mantra 4
Hither, even here, O cows, come ye; here, with Śakra’s might, do ye thrive. Here, even here, moreover, bring ye forth; in me let there be concord among you.
Mantra 5
Auspicious be your cattle-stall; like the thriving pot-herb let it prosper. Here, even here, moreover, increase and be born forth: by me for you we bring the whole to issue.
Mantra 6
By me, O cows, cleave with the cow-lord: this is your stall, here fostering increase. With the thriving of wealth become ye abundant—alive and living on; near you may we sit in attendance.
To make cattle settle peacefully in the cowshed, stay together without scattering, and increase in health, fertility, and wealth (rayi).
“Here” fixes the herd to a specific place (the byre), while “saṃjñāna” binds them into mutual recognition and cohesion—so they do not break apart or become unmanageable.
The primary ‘material’ is the cowshed itself and the act of bringing the herd into it; herbs are not essential. Simple actions like cleaning the byre and calmly leading the cows in while reciting are the core procedure.
